It's Good To Be The King!
With Monsterpocalypse Now set to hit shelves at gaming stores everywhere in just a few weeks, we wanted to highlight the exciting promotional King Kondo mega- and quantum-form monsters.
King Kondo is a power attack–oriented monster in all four of his forms (alpha, ultra, mega, and quantum). His brawling capabilities also play a part in his city-crashing, foe-smashing style, but power attacks are definitely his preferred avenue of attack.
King Kondo’s alpha form—the key component no matter which hyper form you’re playing—is a great leader of brawl units as well as a deceptively strong power attacker for an alpha form. The key to getting the most out of this monster is his Riot brawl trigger. Riot allows a monster to make a rampage, stomp, or ram power attack using dice in play. This provides dice efficiency for Kondo’s attacks and allows him to amass vast stores of power dice quickly. Brawling a building and then performing a stomp or ram with dice in play is fairly easy to orchestrate and often a great option. Using Riot to rampage is a bit tougher, as monsters can’t rampage if they’ve already moved that turn, but you can step him into position, brawl, and then rampage for a truly massive influx of power dice.
Ultra King Kondo moves away from the unit leader role and into one of heavy damage output. His super damage, long-range swat attacks (via Adaptable and Super Swat) define him as a truly impressive ranged-attack monster, especially considering he doesn’t even have a blast attack!
Mega King Kondo sacrifices a bit of that raw power for an impressive array of dice efficiency tools and a slightly higher speed. His power stat of 9 with 4 boost dice is the highest in the game, and the power trigger Riot allows him to use that impressive dice pool up to twice a turn under the right circumstances. Given a good starting position (or a few steps), he can throw an enemy monster across the city and then rampage 7 spaces away. This combination is likely to net mega King Kondo 10 power dice and recoup a pair of action dice via Energy Cycle, a great advantage if you plan to take another monster activation next turn.
It’s frequently a good plan to pair mega King Kondo with one or more buildings with the Shuffle skill. Shuffle combines with Energy Cycle to let Mega King Kondo recoup up to 3 action dice in a single activation. With recycling action dice, easy access to power dice, and 4 boost dice, it’s possible for the King to lay power attacks down on his enemies turn after turn.
Mega King Kondo will be available to all players who purchase a Series 4: Monsterpocalypse Now Mega Kit (PIP 50025), which consists of a case of 12 Monster Boosters and a case of 12 Unit Boosters, plus the mega King Kondo figure. It’s important to note that these kits are limited so you will want to pre-order yours today from your local game store to ensure you get your own mega King Kondo.
