Following on the heels of the mega King Kondo preview, this article will give some insight into his purple-furred compatriot, quantum King Kondo. Quantum forms are a new type of hyper form that bring their own style of play to Monsterpocalypse battles everywhere.

The burning question since folks caught a glimpse of quantum King Kondo at Gen Con has been, “What are those red numbers for?” Some have theorized that the model shown wasn’t final or that he had errors, but such is not the case. Red stats on a quantum form are quantum boost stats. When a quantum monster has more than 5 power dice, his red stats are increased by his quantum stat. In the case of quantum King Kondo, that means his speed jumps from 7 up to 9 and his power attack boost dice jump from 2 up to 4.

This innate ability of quantum forms sharply contrasts with quantum King Kondo’s Temporally Displaced skill. This skill bleeds off a power die at the start of a hyper phase in exchange for super damage on all attacks. It is a situational version of Annihilate that forces players to make a tough decision: pop in and out of hyper form (often called “flexing”) or stick with the hyper form over several turns? No previous monster save Mega Zor-Magna has such a low cost to enter hyper form, but the benefits of super damage are tough to pass up.

The decision whether to flex quantum King Kondo is further complicated by his strong unit support skills. Between Hasten and Berserk, Kondo’s brawlers can get to the battle quickly and are more accurate with their attacks.

Beyond the intricacies of quantum King Kondo’s alpha/hyper decision, the monster is a true beast when it comes to maneuverability. When he has 6 or more power dice, King Kondo’s speed of 9 couples with his Sprint and Hit & Run abilities to allow up to 15 spaces of movement in a single turn even before factoring in the ability to spend action dice to step. Seek to use this impressive capability to reposition quantum King Kondo after a super damage brawl attack. With 3 spaces of Hit & Run plus 3 spaces of Sprint, it is fairly easy to get back behind a screen of defensive units.

The trio of ultra, mega, and quantum forms present the player with a unique selection: raw power, dice efficiency, or speed and versatility. Which King will you choose?
